Managing Product Details

Each product in your portfolio has a dedicated detail page where you can manage all aspects of that product. This guide covers how to use the product detail page effectively.

Accessing Product Details

Click on any product card in the Portfolio to open its detail page. You can also navigate to a product from a KPI tree by clicking the linked product name.

Product Attributes

The top section of the product detail page shows the product's core attributes:

Name

The product name displayed everywhere in Valtrics. Choose a name that's recognizable to everyone in your organization.

To edit: Click the product name, type the new name, and save.

Description

A brief summary of what the product does and who it serves. This helps team members — especially new ones — understand each product's purpose.

A good description answers:

  • What does this product do?
  • Who are the primary users?
  • What problem does it solve?

Lifecycle Stage

The current stage of the product's lifecycle. See Lifecycle Stages for detailed descriptions of each stage.

To change: Click the stage badge, select the new stage, and save.

Owner

The team member responsible for this product. Assigning an owner creates accountability and makes it clear who to contact about the product's performance.

To change: Click the owner field, select a team member, and save.

Tags

Labels for organizing and filtering products in the portfolio view. You can add multiple tags to a product.

To manage: Click the tags area, type a tag name, and press Enter to add it. Click the "x" on a tag to remove it.

Linked KPI Trees

The product detail page shows all KPI trees associated with this product. From here you can:

  • View — Click a tree name to open it
  • Create — Click "Create KPI Tree" to start a new tree for this product
  • See health — Each linked tree shows a summary of metric health

A product can have multiple KPI trees. This is useful when you want separate trees for different objectives (e.g., one for revenue, one for engagement).

Metrics Summary

The metrics section shows an overview of all metrics attached to this product's KPI trees:

  • Total number of metrics
  • Health breakdown (on track, at risk, off track, no data)
  • Metrics that need attention (off track or at risk)

This gives you a quick health check without needing to open each KPI tree individually.

Editing Product Details

To edit any attribute:

  1. Click on the field you want to change
  2. Make your edits
  3. Save

Changes take effect immediately and are visible to all team members.

Deleting a Product

To delete a product:

  1. Open the product detail page
  2. Look for the delete option in the product settings or menu
  3. Confirm the deletion

Warning: Deleting a product removes all associated data including linked KPI trees and their metrics. This action cannot be undone. Consider archiving the product instead if you want to preserve the data.

Best Practices

Keep Details Current

Review product details monthly. Outdated descriptions, wrong owners, and stale lifecycle stages reduce the portfolio's value as a shared reference.

Write Useful Descriptions

The description is often the first thing a new team member reads. Make it informative:

  • Bad: "The main app"
  • Good: "Customer-facing web application for managing subscriptions. Primary users: enterprise account managers. Launched Q2 2024."

Use the Detail Page for Product Reviews

When conducting product reviews or portfolio assessments, the detail page gives you everything in one place — attributes, KPI tree health, and metric performance.
